City festival celebrates Hoa people’s cultural pizzaz

A cross-culture festival highlighting the beauty of Chinese-Vietnamese traditions will animate the streets of HCM City, a city with a large population of people with Chinese ancestry, or the Hoa, for four days next month.

Handicraft artisans, artists and performers will take part in events hosted by both the Ministry of Culture and Information and the HCM City People’s Committee. Larger venues will be set up at 30-4 Park, but most small-scale shows will be scattered around the city.

More than 12,000 people attended the opening prayer at the Yen Tu Spring Festival, which opened on Monday, in Quang Ninh Province.

Representatives from the Viet Nam Buddhist Shanga, as well as Buddhist monks and nuns, led the ceremony at the foot of Yen Tu Mountain in Uong Bi Town, located 120km northeast of Ha Noi.

The crowd was asked to pray for peace and health for Vietnamese everywhere.

HA NOI — March should be a time for showcasing Vietnamese youth and their achievements across the country, according to the first secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Vo Van Thuong, in the Youth Month launch yesterday in Ha Noi.

In March young people will try to emulate the virtuous example of President Ho Chi Minh by giving a helping hand to poor families in remote areas or former revolutionary bases, by promoting environmental protection and by disseminating information about road and transport laws.
