ConocoPhillips funds new school in Binh Thuan

VietNamNet Bridge – ConocoPhillips Vietnam has provided US$90,000 for construction of Tan Ha Primary School that was inaugurated Sunday in Tan Ha Commune in Binh Thuan Province's Ham Tan District.

ConocoPhillips Vietnam president Bobby Nolen (3rd, L) and VCF director Ram Russell (2nd, L) get a souvenir from Tan Ha Primary School's students during the inauguration of the school.

This is a much-needed educational facility in this poor region, which was built through the Vietnam Children's Fund (VCF), an American non-governmental organization in Vietnam.

ConocoPhillips Vietnam president Bobby Nolen said his company selected the Tan Ha Commune to build a new two-story school building comprising eight classrooms, a staff room and a library.

VietNamNet Bridge – State President Nguyen Minh Triet yesterday inaugurated the Dang Thuy Tram Polyclinic, named after the heroic woman doctor, in Pho Cuong Commune, Duc Pho District in Quang Ngai Province.

State President Nguyen Minh Triet yesterday inaugurated the Dang Thuy Tram Polyclinic.

He also visited the Dang Thuy Tram General Hospital in Duc Pho Township, and asked doctors and nurses to follow the example of heroic Dang Thuy Tram, who served the liberation force and sacrificed her life during the American War in the province.

He also met and presented gifts to 17 former comrades of Dr Tram and 20 families of Hre ethnic minority from Ba To District, where Tram worked and died.

In the afternoon, Triet and his delegation worked with provincial authorities.

Viet Nam officially becomes WTO member

Geneva (VNA) - Viet Nam was officially admitted to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) during a special meeting of the WTO General Council on Nov. 7 in Geneva.

Eirick Glenne, Chairman of the WTO General Council-cum-Chairman of the Working Party on the Accession of Viet Nam to the WTO, marked the start of the meeting by summarising Viet Nam's negotiation process and gave final approval of Viet Nam's commitments with the consensus of all 149 WTO members. The council then approved Protocol WT/ACC/VNM/48 on Viet Nam's WTO accession.
