VietNamNet Bridge - The Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2007 will be held form June 8-6 in the central city of Hue. The first Hue Traditional Craft Festival was held in 2005 and takes place every 2 years, alternating with the Hue Festival. The theme of the coming festival will be ”Phu Xuan Hue’s traditional crafts in 320 years – identity and development”. Crafts to be introduced at the festival will include engravings, copper casts and jewellery. Artisans throughout the country will gather in Hue to demonstrate their impressive skills. |

VietNamNet Bridge – The ancient town of Hoi An in Quang Nam Province held an umbrella festival for the first time.

The festival, with the
participation of visitors, painters, calligraphers and 70 students from
various schools, took place at the Cau Pagoda from 1.30pm to 6.30pm on
Friday.
Some 1,000 umbrellas became
strikingly alive after undergoing transformation by the talented hands
of professional and un-professional painters.
The plain unfinished
umbrellas cost US$2 each. Then, the visitors went to work on their
umbrellas by using colors from an organization board to express
themselves. The ten most beautiful umbrellas drawn were auctioned. |

A cross-culture festival highlighting the beauty of Chinese-Vietnamese traditions will animate the streets of HCM City, a city with a large population of people with Chinese ancestry, or the Hoa, for four days next month. Handicraft artisans, artists and performers will take part in events hosted by both the Ministry of Culture and Information and the HCM City People’s Committee. Larger venues will be set up at 30-4 Park, but most small-scale shows will be scattered around the city. |

More than 12,000 people attended the opening prayer at the Yen Tu Spring Festival, which opened on Monday, in Quang Ninh Province. Representatives from the Viet Nam Buddhist Shanga, as well as Buddhist monks and nuns, led the ceremony at the foot of Yen Tu Mountain in Uong Bi Town, located 120km northeast of Ha Noi. The crowd was asked to pray for peace and health for Vietnamese everywhere. |
