VietNamNet Bridge – Architect Vo Trong Nghia has become the first Vietnamese to win the gold medal of the Arcasia Awards 2007-2008 of the Asian Architects’ Association, for his Café of Wind and Water in the southern province of Binh Duong, Vietnam.

This award was announced by the Asian Architects’ Association in Sri Lanka on September 18.

The Café of Wind and Water applies aerodynamic theory, which is designed by architect Vo Trong Nghia and his co-workers Nguyen Hoa Hiep, Sakata Minoru, and Ohara Hisanori, using angular bamboo as the major construction material.

Architects also take advantage of the lake around the café as a natural ‘air conditioner’. This work has also won many high prizes for architecture in Vietnam.

Architect Vo Trong Nghia said that the Café of Wind and Water won the gold medal thanks to its strange design, which uses natural energy and is friendly to the environment. This is also the first architecture work using aerodynamic theory in Vietnam.
