From November 9-12, Da Nang city in the central region will be the destination of around 1,000 IT students from 100 colleges and universities in Vietnam and 20 foreign teams. They will descend on the city for the Asian qualifier round of the international programming contest named ACM/ICPC and the Olympic IT contest. Nguyen Long, head of the organising board of ACM/ICPC in Vietnam, said that the combination of the two events was a step to prove the ability of integration of young Vietnamese people in the field of information and communication technology, especially programming skills and English.
“I believe that the contest will be a chance for Vietnamese students to compete with international students and to improve their team-work skills. The combination of an international and a local IT contest will also help send the names of Vietnamese colleges and universities abroad,” Long said.
The final round of the global ACM/ICPC will take place in Alberta, Canada from April 6-10, 2008.
Last year, Chicken team of the Hanoi University of Technology ranked 44th/88 teams. Poland’s Warsaw University team took the championship cup.
