Saigonese people join contest to worship Hung Kings PDF Print E-mail

VietNamNet Bridge – Twenty four teams representing the 24 districts of HCMC have registered to join the Banh Tet (traditional sticky rice cake) making contest to select the best cakes to worship the Hung Kings on February 12, or December 29 of the lunar calendar.

According to the Tet 2010 Festival organizing committee, the deadline for registration is February 8. All 24 districts of the city have teams in the contest, one more than last year.

The final round to select winners for the traditional Banh Tet and Creative Banh Tet categories will take place at the Dam Sen Park in District 11 on February 10. The organizing committee will also give banh tet to children during the ceremony.

Superior Bonze awarded “IT Knight” title PDF Print E-mail

VietNamNet Bridge - Superior Bonze Thich Quang Tam, head of the Long Thanh Pagoda in Thu Thua township of southern Long An province, has been awarded the “Information Technology Knight” title by the E-Chip magazine for his contributions to computer illiteracy in the township.


Superior Bonze Thich Quang Tam learnt basic IT skills by himself with an old computer given by his friend. He then shared his knowledge with poor students living in the pagoda.

Pham Van Dong University in the future

VietNamNet Bridge - PM Nguyen Tan Dung has recently approved the establishment of two new universities, the University of Economics and Industrial Technology and Pham Van Dong University.

The universities will upgraded from junior colleges which are now located in Nam Dinh and Quang Ngai provinces, respectively.

Pham Van Dong University, in particular, has received financial and other support from Shobhit University in India.

The two schools will work together to develop joint English and IT training programmes.

VietNamNet Bridge - On July 17, the Ninh Thuan Department of Trade and Tourism and representatives from the tourism promotion centers of Binh Thuan and Khanh Hoa provinces carried out a survey on the beautiful sites of Ninh Thuan to set up tours for Ninh Thuan Festival 2007, from August 15-21.

A cross-culture festival highlighting the beauty of Chinese-Vietnamese traditions will animate the streets of HCM City, a city with a large population of people with Chinese ancestry, or the Hoa, for four days next month.

Handicraft artisans, artists and performers will take part in events hosted by both the Ministry of Culture and Information and the HCM City People’s Committee. Larger venues will be set up at 30-4 Park, but most small-scale shows will be scattered around the city.
